Training follows current heavy vehicle licensing requirements and prepares you for the MR licence assessment, while building the skills needed to operate medium rigid vehicles responsibly in the workplace.


Medium Rigid Licence Course Information

The process for getting your Medium Rigid (MR) Truck Licence includes: 

  1. Complete the written knowledge test. Great Heavy Driving School will book this on your behalf as part of the Full Package. You can complete the practice test here: Practice Road Rules Test 
  2. Complete driving lessons with Great Heavy Driving School 
  3. Complete your Medium Rigid (MR) Practical Driving Test. Great Heavy Driving School will book this on your behalf as part of the Full Package. 

  • A valid Australian Car Driver Licence that has been held for a minimum of 12 months 
  • Secondary identification 
  • Wear appropriate clothing, including with completely enclosed boots or runners. 
  • English is the only language used for training and assessment; a functional level of English language comprehension is necessary.

  • A mid-week practical driving test booking fee of $70 
  • A mandatory written knowledge test $27.75

CONFIRM ELIGIBILITY & BOOK YOUR COURSE

Ensure you're 17 or older, proficient in English, and ready for hands-on training. Then, secure your spot by booking online or contacting us directly.

COMPLETE TRAINING & ASSESSMENT

Attend both classroom sessions and practical training at our Brisbane facility or request on-site training. At the end, you’ll complete a practical assessment.

RECEIVE CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion, you'll receive a Statement of Attainment for your course and can request a plastic industry wallet card.

Medium Rigid Licence Course FAQs

No prior heavy vehicle experience is required. Training is delivered progressively, starting with vehicle familiarisation and basic control before moving to road driving and manoeuvres required for the assessment.

The assessment evaluates safe vehicle operation under normal traffic conditions. This includes observation, road positioning, speed control, signalling and manoeuvring. You must demonstrate consistent control of the vehicle and awareness of surrounding hazards.

Training and assessment are completed in a Medium Rigid vehicle that meets licensing requirements. You will practise using mirrors, managing vehicle length and maintaining lane position so you are prepared for real driving conditions.

Training duration depends on your previous driving experience and ability to safely control the vehicle. Some drivers require only a short familiarisation session, while others benefit from additional practice before attempting the assessment.
